4/2/2016 to 4/18/2016   We traveled to Texas along the coast from Sabine Woods via Matagorda and
Kingsville down to South Padre Island and Brownsville.  Then, our trip took us up along the Rio Grande
where we tried to pick up some Mexican species.  We had a blast in great weather!
4/9 and 4/10/2016  Estero Llano Grande SP :   It was a real treat (after a two hours search) to find a
secretive Common Pauraque and its chick!  A male Buff-bellied Hummingbird put on a preening show for
us as well.  Also: Green Jay , Golden-fronted Woodpecker , Green Heron , juv. Neotropic Cormorant ,
Curve-billed Thrasher , Eastern Screech Owl (Mexican) , and Great-tailed Grackle (m).
4/9 and 4/10/2016   Frontera Audubon Sanctuary, Weslaco, TX:  This Black-throated Green Warbler was
interesting as it almost looked like a Golden-cheeked Warbler Hybrid with its lack of face pattern.  (It still
had a bit of yellow vent wash and the greenish back.) Also Hooded Warbler (f), Tennessee Warbler , Olive
Sparrow , Blue Bunting (m), Black-headed Grosbeak (f),  Black-crested Titmouse , and Swainson's Hawk .
4/9 and 4/10/2016  Brownsville, TX:  It was great fun to see the parrots of Brownsville.  They would study
you and talk to you then realize you were an inferior being since you didn't seem to understand and
couldn't fly up to visit.  Red-lored Parrot , Red-crowned Parrot , Green Parakeet pair on the wire ,
White-fronted Parrot pair playing on the wires, and a Couch's Kingbird with nest material.
