| 2/5/2015 to 2/27/2015 We flew to the "End of the World" Ushuaia, Terra del Fuego, Argentina with the intent on catching our One Ocean ship, the Akademik Sergey Vavilov, to Antarctica via the Falklands and South Georgia. Our Tropical Birding guide, Andrew Spencer, was very knowledgeable and we were pleased to have him help us identify all we saw. | 2/9/2015 Birding en route Falkland Islands to South Georgia: a Northern Giant Petrel , a Wandering Albatross group surely sharing the goods , a Soft-plumaged Petrel , a distant Sooty Albatross for the record , a South Georgia Shag trio, a White-chinned Petrel, a number of Black-browed Albatross (+ a dark-billed juv and in mixed company), and a Black-bellied Storm-petrel. |

| 2/12/2015 Grytviken, South Georgia: Our first stop was an old whaling station where Sir Shackleton is buried. We had wonderful encounters with Fur Seals and young Elephant Seals. Bird-wise, we caught a few, including a beautiful Antarctic Tern flock dancing over the waves, Macaroni Penguins porpoising, and our first good looks at King Penguins (pics from a SG colony coming soon!). Also, Light-mantled Albatross , South Georgia Shag , Yellow-billed Pintail , and a Northern Giant Petrel resting on the beach. |
