3/16/2012 Hokkaido, Japan:  It was cold and beautiful with dancing cranes making a show for us and
eagles landing on the ice flows!
4/1-11/2012 Taiwan: We birded through Dasyeushan Nation Forest and Hehuanshan National Forest via
Puli and through the amazing Taroko Gorge.  Then we traveled up the east coast and came through
Yamingshan National Forest back to Taipei.  Taiwan is an amazing island with wondrous mountains,
waterfalls, hot springs, gorges, beaches, and ancient trees over 3000 years old.  Add friendly and helpful
people and incredibly colorful endemic birds, and we felt very fortunate to visit indeed!
4/28+29/2012 Chengdu, China:  We were able to visit the Panda Breeding Center just outside the city.
Then it was to Wolong and Balangshan as we looked for pheasants.  The 2008 Earthquake damage was
still evident and the road is apparently often closed due to landslides and floods, so the trip was long
but very interesting.  Much was being rebuilt and the scenery at 4500m was absolutely stunning.
