11/22/09 DE, Early morning Mugshots of American Robins. Also a Cedar Waxwing, an American Goldfinch, and Eastern Bluebirds turned up.

11/20/09 Walking in the Pike Creek area, came across two Golden-crowned Kinglets (m+f) in a tree. They were foraging when, suddenly, they fluttered down to the ground together and lay in the leaves perfectly still for about ten seconds. A walker disturbed them and they both flew into the tree and started foraging again. Strange mating behavior? Did the ground surprise them and stun them for a few seconds? Not sure but glad they weren't hurt. Also a Carolina Chickadee munching on berries at dawn.

11/21/09 BCSP, DE A beautiful Pileated Woodpecker showed up, ate berries, then ended up hidden in a tree above us chipping away at "something very interesting". He did not seem concerned with us at all which was unusual. Unfortunately we didn't have our good camera and had to make do with what we had. A Golden-crowned Kinglet also posed on a gorgeous day. Then it was off to Ashland Hawkwatch where we all saw a flying panther along with the usual suspects, + a Red-tailed Hawk and a White-breasted Nuthatch!

11/25,27,28/09 Thanksgiving found us in Colorado where we found lots to be thankful for! We also got to bird a bit and look what showed up! A Golden Eagle right above us. In order: Brown-capped Rosy-Finch (2 pics), Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch (interior pop. 3 pics) (coastal pop. 3 pics), Black-capped Chickadee , an American Kestrel with a catch, and a Mountain Chickadee. Elk, Mule Deer, White-tailed deer, a Pika, and an American Magpie also graced us with appearances. Hope everyone had a great Holiday!

12/5 Brig, NJ (A Great Blue Heron , a Ring-necked Duck are shown.) Then to Cape May for the Ivory Gull - what a beauty! The Storm did not allow great lighting but we were happy to see our celebrated visitor.
12/6/09 Bombay Hook, DE : Northern Shoveler, a muddy Ruddy Duck , House Finch, and an American Coot !
