2/5/2015 to 2/27/2015 We flew to the "End of the World" Ushuaia, Terra del Fuego, Argentina with the
intent on catching our One Ocean ship, the Akademik Sergey Vavilov, to Antarctica via the Falklands and
South Georgia.  Our Tropical Birding guide, Andrew Spencer, was very knowledgeable and we were
pleased to have him help us identify all we saw.    (Click on NEXT PAGE below to go back in time.)
2/8/2015 Carcass Island, Falkland Islands:  On a foggy afternoon, we landed via Zodiac and walked across
grasslands to a Magellanic Penguin and Gentoo Penguin mixed colony nestled in its own beach cove.  
While the Magellanic Penguins were certainly endearing enough, it was great fun to watch the Gentoo
Penguins "porpoise" in on the waves!  Shown: a Magellanic Penguin study and a White-bridled Finch.
2/8/2015 Carcass Island, Falkland Islands:  Unfortunately it was a bit foggy, but we were happy to just be on
the island taking it all in!  Besides the penguins, we also caught images of the endemic Cobb's Wren. Also:
Blackish Cinclodes , Great Skua with chick, Striated Caracara , and Sedge Wren (or Grass Wren).
2/8/2015 Carcass Island, Falkland Islands:  Although it was still foggy for good photography, we were able
to watch two Falkland Steamerduck pairs in contention for the beach.  Tensions were high it seemed...
