6/23/12 Dragonboat Festival, Shanghai, China: Dragonboat race along the Suzhou River in Shanghai was
a gay event though very crowded with spectators! The boat races are based on the story of how the
villagers attempted to rescue the patriotic poet Chu Yuan. Chu Yuan drowned on the fifth day of the fifth
lunar month in 277 B.C. It was said that rice was thrown into the water so that the fish could eat the rice
rather than the hero poet. This later on turned into the custom of eating tzungtzu and rice dumplings
during the holiday.
6/18/12 Shanghai Bay National Forest Park, south of Shanghai, China:  It may have been exceptionally
quiet due to heavy rains, but the serenity was enjoyed along with the many museums on the property.
6/18/12 Jiulong Mountain Scenic area, near Zhapuzhen, China:  This may have been scenic at one point
but the tanks and sea refueling stations were disappointing.  The cemetery was interesting.
