| 9/1-2/12 Khao Yai National Park, Thailand: A special thanks to our guides Tony and Kay of www.Thailandbirdwatching.com who did an exceptional job showing us the birds. Thanks again, guys! Thailand was amazing (see Asia "tourist pages") and the people were so friendly. We took tons of pics; more coming! A female Banded Kingfisher allowed us to study her in depth in good light. Poor lighting allowed for poor images of Banded Broadbill, but we were happy to see this incredibly beautiful bird. Also: an Asian Openbill study. |

Orange-breasted Trogon , Red-wattled Lapwing , juv. Fire-breasted Flowerpecker , Common Kingfisher , Blue-eared Kingfisher , Black-crested Bulbul (see next page for more), Greater Flameback , Puff-throated Bulbul , Blue-throated Bee-eater (see next page for more), and a female Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker. |
| 9/3/12 Lumphini Park, Bangkok, Thailand: In the middle of Bangkok is a park that can be rewarding to birding newcomers to Thailand. Our focus was on birds we hadn't seen before but there were those individuals who insisted on being photographed - you know who you are!). A brilliant Coppersmith Barbet pair was eating berries along with a Pied Fantail family eating insects. Also: An Oriental Magpie Robin , Large-billed Crow , Common Myna , a little f. Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker , Common Iora , Asian Pied Starling , Little Heron (or Striated Heron) , and a monitor that caught and swallowed a huge catfish. |
