| 5/27/2012 Red-crowned Crane Reserve, Yancheng, China: A great place for both familiar and unfamiliar birds. A Yellow Bittern was captured before melting into the reeds. A Vinous-throated Parrotbill flock wasn't shy for the camera. Also seen: Ruddy Shelduck , Plain Prinia , Purple Heron , Pied Avocet , Oriental Stork , Mandarin Duck, Mallard pair , and a Grey-headed Lapwing with young. |

| 5/27/2012 Red-crowned Crane Reserve, Yancheng, China: A study of one of our favorite birds, the Common Hoopoe . Also, a Greater Coucal showed up, a Great White Egret was catching fish, a Cattle Egret pair in breeding plumage was bathing, an Eurasian Cuckoo group put on a very exciting show, chasing each other around the wetlands (calling constantly), many Azure-winged Magpie pairs were nesting, a Black Drongo was hunting, a Black-crowned Night-Heron was fishing while Chinese Grosbeak and Chinese Bulbul pairs were nesting. One of the most beautiful sights was the butterfly migration in progress - it was simply stunning to see! |
