4/1-11/12 Beautiful Taiwan:  We were able to take a few days to bird with Wayne Hsu, a phenomenal birder
in Taiwan.  Thanks, Wayne!  Shown: Mikado Pheasant , Taiwan Hill Partridge , and Swinhoe's Pheasant  -
light was very dim but we had fun trying for photos!  The Flamecrest was a treat as was the
Black-throated Tit flocks we ran into.  Also shown: Grey-capped Pygmy Woodpecker pecking amidst the
spring blooms.
4/1-11/12 Beautiful Taiwan:  a Johnstone's Robin (Collared Bush Robin), a Green-backed Tit along with a
group of Steere's Liocichla who were fighting among themselves.  A Spotted Nutcracker showed up as
did a male Maroon Oriole.  Malayan Night Herons were seen frequently as were Himalayan Black Bulbuls,
and the Grey Treepie was downright friendly.  We saw two Collared Finchbills and a pair of Coal Tits with
nesting material while a Black Eagle soared overhead.  Black Drongos were taking baths, Asian House
Martins were gathering string for nests, but the Striated Swallows had already built theirs - in the living
room of a kind man who left his house open so they could come and go as they pleased! Butterflies were
everywhere.
4/1-11/12 Beautiful Taiwan:  White-whiskered Laughing Thrush , Taiwan Yuhina , Taiwan Sibia , more
Taiwan Blue Magpie (see next page), a Taiwan Barwing and a distant Yellow Tit.  Also, a Malayan Night
Heron , a Chinese Bulbul (Light-vented Bulbul) , and a Common Myna.
