3/4/10 DE Birders posted the appearance of an Egyptian Goose (2) at the university campus in Newark, DE.
Having never seen one, had to go down to have a look. Quite striking! Sibley says they have been
introduced in the USA and there is a feral flock in California, but maybe we can start our own in DE! Also, a
few pics of a White-breasted Nuthatch from the snow days.

Sapsucker. Note the pattern on the tree!
3/6/10 What a beautiful day! To start off, numerous species of ducks were at Bombay Hook, DE: Northern
Pintail , Ruddy Duck , Mallard , and a Common Merganser pair . A Red-winged Blackbird popped up to
pose. In the Pike Creek  area , A White-breasted Nuthatch , a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker , and a Gray
Catbird (FOY) showed up for a photo shoot. Spring may be around the corner...
A few images from our DE snow days : Carolina Chickadee (Anyone wanting to make a Black-capped out of
these, let us know! Very rough bib and a lot of white....but....) and Rt 9 with an invitation to go 50mph.
3/14-19/10 A couple shots of a White-crowned Sparrow from Bombay Hook on a foggy and very wet
morning along with a Northern Screech Owl in its box. Then, with the great weather during the week, it
was hard to stay inside. Anyone notice a Song Sparrow singing? They are everywhere. Also found a
Carolina Chickadee pair digging out a nest. Didn't realized what little wood burrowers they were!
3/20/10 Another gorgeous day! Had to get back down to Bombay Hook to see if a White-crowned Sparrow
would pose in the sunshine. A few did (ad & imm)!  A Red-winged Blackbird put on a show and a Field
Sparrow showed up near the center. A Northern Shoveler was the only duck who would come close for a
shot. On the way down, saw a distant American Pipit and Savannah Sparrow in a field off Rt 6.
3/21+28/10 Some pics from DE: Wood Duck (m&f) , Northern Cardinal , Domestic Goose (didn't act so
domestic - beautiful!) Our busy Carolina Chickadee pair was still digging out their nest site. A Canada
Goose let another know its displeasure at being attacked and a Ring-necked Duck in a morning stretch.
