| 4/2/2016 to 4/18/2016 We traveled to Texas along the coast from Sabine Woods via Matagorda and Kingsville down to South Padre Island and Brownsville. Then, our trip took us up along the Rio Grande where we tried to pick up some Mexican species. We had a blast in great weather! A quick overview of some of the birds we saw: Scaled Quail , Common Pauraque (with chick!), Altamira Oriole , Red-crowned Parrot , Red-billed Pigeon , Ringed Kingfisher , Muscovy Duck , Red-lored Parrot , Long-billed Thrasher , Hooded Oriole , Couch's Kingbird , Blue Bunting , Eastern Screech-Owl (Mexican), Green Kingfisher (m,f), Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl , Gray Hawk , Greater Roadrunner with frog , Curve-billed Thrasher , White-tipped Dove , Buff-bellied Hummingbird , Black-headed Grosbeak (f), Ruby-throated Hummingbird , Great Horned Owl (older chick), Clay-colored Thrush , Swainson's Hawk , Tennessee Warbler (bath), Vermilion Flycatcher (m), White-collared Seedeater (f,m), Green Jay , Least Grebe , Green Parakeet , Summer Tanager (bath), below these Aplomado Falcon and Broad-winged Hawk , then a Plain Chachalaca , Audubon Oriole , and a little Bobcat that came early one morning for a drink. | 4/18/2016 San Ygnacio Bird and Butterfly Park, TX : Our final stop of the trip! Here we found a Yellow-breasted Chat along with the White-collared Seedeater (m,f) we were looking for! Also, an Olive Sparrow , a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher NOT on a wire, and a female Vermillion Flycatcher . |
