On 8/23/08 we zipped through Bombay Hook NWR, DE, feasting on the sights. There were some juvenile
Bank Swallows hanging with a flock of Tree Swallows - comparing the juveniles of the two species was
interesting. A Forster's Tern was still feeding its younsters and two juv. Clapper Rails were scurrying
about the mud flats. They were hard to see until they ruffled their feathers.

They were very hard to see until they ruffled their feathers. (Note how one bird blends in with the mud.)

On 9/1/08 We checked out the 1000 Acre Marsh, DE and sighted some juv. Forster's Terns, Bonaparte
Gulls, Stilt Sandpipers in a group of Dowitchers and Lesser Yellowlegs, and a distant Wilson's
Phalarope. The Lesser Yellowlegs were bothering each other. Little Blue Herons, both an adult and
white juvenile (with gray bill and black wing tips) were present. What a glorious day!
We don't get to see many Wilson's
Phalaropes in DE. (shown below with Lesser
Yellowlegs for comparison).

On 9/7/08 We checked out the 1000 Acre Marsh, DE again. (We obviously can't get enough of a good
thing!) Little Blue Herons were still around and we worked at capturing comparison shots of the white
juveniles (with gray bill and black wing tips) and juvenile Snowy Egrets that were also fishing.
Interesting study. A single Black Tern was zipping about along with Great Egrets and a fine looking
Glossy Ibis. Some Bobolinks were wished up from the swamp grasses.

Herons (white with gray bill and black wing tips) and Snowy Egrets were present and everyone was
putting on a great show in beautiful light.  Fun to watch!

9/13/08 It was back to 1000 Acre Marsh, DE again. A White-eyed Vireo gave us a beautiful look. A 'lone'
Solitary Sandpiper stayed away from the rambunctious Lesser Yellowlegs. A Bald Eagle was sunning
itself and Brown-headed Cowbirds were out in the hundreds. Common Yellowthroats were skulking
among the reeds. At home on the 12th, a Chipping Sp. (juv), a House Wren, and an American Goldfinch
were migrating through. Also, the last Black Skimmer pictures from the Florida June trip were added.
