4/28+29/2012  We flew into Chengdu, China.  After checking out the Bamboo Gardens and Giant Panda
Breeding Center (see Panda and scenery pics under "ASIA - tourist pages"), we met up with Tang Jun of
chinatibettravel.net who took us into the mountains for a wonderful trip searching for
pheasants/partridges/snowcocks etc.... We saw an amazing array of birds with a big thanks to Tang Jun
whose hearing and eyesight was far beyond ours - THANKS, Tang Jun!
4/28/2012 Second, some birds from Chengdu: a Common Kingfisher with a catch, a White-browed
Laughing Thrush flock showed up, an Oriental Magpie Robin , a Little Grebe pair was making a nest , a
Eurasian Tree Sparrow (quite a few), a Black-throated Tit pair was constructing a nest high in the pines, a
Black Swan with young, and 2 Black-crowned Night Heron fledglings in a high bamboo nest.
4/28+29/2012  First, some of the high altitude birds of which we were able to catch images: The Tibetan
Snowcock we came across were very obliging with the Snow Partridge a close second.  Both were
beautiful birds!  The Chinese Monel were seen in the early dawn along the hillside.  While the camera
couldn't capture the male's brilliant blue, the bins sure could. (We also saw two White-eared Pheasants
and a Koklass Pheasant.)  Also shown: a warbler to be determined, a Rosy Pipit , a female Golden
Pheasant (We DID see a distant male which was simple gorgeous!), a Plain Mountain Finch (wire), a
Blue-fronted Redstart , and an Alpine Accentor study.
